"To some people Social Security is just a number, but to me it’s money that I earned," a Virginia senior citizen says in the ad. "I count on Social Security, and I don’t want Washington politicians like George Allen privatizing it. If George Allen wants to risk his own money on Wall Street, that's fine. But I don't want him risking mine. George Allen just isn't watching out for us."
Allen is locked in a tight race with former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D) in a race that Republicans likely need to win to retake control of the Senate.
His campaign pushed back on the ad.
"Tim Kaine allies are once again pulling out their tired and failed scare tactics from their Washington playbook," Allen spokeswoman Emily Davis told The Richmond Times-Dispatch. "While Washington's debt-driven spending sprees and job-destroying policies further diminish the underpinnings of Social Security and Medicare, George Allen has made it a priority to keep our promises to our seniors and work across party lines to find solutions to strengthen these programs."
