The Service Employees International Union and the independent expenditure unit of Emily's List, Women Vote!, launched a $1 million ad buy attacking Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), just days following the passage of the deadline for his exit from the race.
The ad opens on Akin's infamous comments — that pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape" is rare because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down" — and then lists some of Akin's legislative history, including his position against federal student loans and his vote against a national sex offender registry.
It will run in the Springfield, St. Louis and Kansas City markets starting on Thursday.
