Obama: 'I thought Joe Biden was terrific' in debate performance

By Jonathan Easley - 10/12/12 07:59 AM ET

President Obama told reporters he “could not be prouder” of Vice President Biden’s debate performance on Thursday night.

“I'm going to make a special point of saying that I thought Joe Biden was terrific tonight,” Obama said as he descended Air Force One, according to a media pool report. “I could not be prouder of him. I thought he made a very strong case. I really think that his passion for making sure that the economy grows for the middle class came through. So I'm very proud of him.”

The president said he spoke with the vice president aboard Air Force One on his flight back to Washington from a campaign rally in Florida.

“I just talked to him,” Obama said, smiling.

Biden squared off with vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan in Kentucky on Thursday night for their first and only debate.
