New Romney ad hits Obama over ‘secretary of Business’ proposal

By Justin Sink - 11/01/12 09:57 AM ET

A television ad from the Romney campaign released Thursday seized on President Obama's suggestion to create a "secretary of Business" to argue that the president's "solution to everything is to add another bureaucrat."

Obama made the comment during an appearance Monday on MSNBC, saying he wanted to create a "one-stop shop" for business oversight if he wins reelection.

"I’ve said that I want to consolidate a whole bunch of government agencies. We should have one secretary of Business, instead of nine different departments that are dealing with things like giving loans to SBA [the Small Business Administration] or helping companies with exports," he said.

The commercial released by the Romney campaign openly mocks that idea, suggesting the solution for improving the economy is not more government.

"Barack Obama recently said he might appoint a secretary of Business," a narrator says. "His solution to everything is to add another bureaucrat."

The commercial goes on to tout Romney's business experience.

"Mitt Romney understands business and knows what it will take to create jobs and get our economy moving again," the narrator says. "He’s done it before. He’ll do it again."

The Romney team did not release information about where the commercial would air, nor the amount of money the campaign would spend on the ad buy.
