Teddy Turner says Obama would 'fail' economic class in second ad

By Cameron Joseph - 01/31/13 10:02 AM ET

High school economics teacher Teddy Turner (R) is out with his second ad in the race to fill Sen. Tim Scott's (R-S.C.) House seat, a spot that plays up his background as a teacher — and slams President Obama.

"I'm a high school economics teacher. If President Obama were in my class he'd fail," Turner says in the ad. "I'm a teacher, not a politician, and I know that we can solve a lot of problems by sticking to simple economic principles. We can't spend our way out of debt. We grow our economy by getting government out of the way. Less red tape means more jobs. I'm Teddy Turner and I approve this message because it's time to teach Washington a lesson."

Turner, the son of media mogul Ted Turner, faces a crowded field that includes former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) and a number of current and former members of the statehouse. Turner's campaign insists he's not self-funding most of his campaign, so either fundraising is going very well or he's running relatively small ad buys.
