"I have no plans to run for governor. I have no intention of running for governor," he said on MSNBC's Jansing & Co.

"I love this job as senator, except I am very, very frustrated, as we have discussed this morning, that we can't get anything done because you can't get people together to build consensus," he added.

Nelson's comments follow a report in Roll Call citing "a senior Florida Democratic official" that Nelson is going to "take a very close look" at the race.

If Nelson did run, and defeated Scott, his seat would be open for a temporary appointment until a special election for a replacement could be held in 2016. It's unclear whether Scott or Nelson would appoint a successor.
