McConnell campaign hits Grimes with first attack ad in Kentucky Senate race

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) reelection campaign released its first attack ad against Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) on Tuesday.

The ad, an auto-tuned clip that runs just short of two minutes, hits Grimes as unready for the national stage and unnecessarily liberal.

"What rhymes with Alison Lundergan Grimes?" the voiceover in the ad asks before text "not ready for prime time" appears.

The ad also hits Grimes as a "left wing mime." All the jabs are meant to rhyme with the chorus of the ad, "What rhymes with Alison Lundergan Grimes?"

In one part of the clip, Grimes's face is also pasted over Ellen DeGeneres dancing next to President Obama.

The ad is the first barrage by the McConnell campaign since Grimes jumped into the race for McConnell's Senate seat. Grimes announced her candidacy on Monday.
