Perdue becomes fifth Republican in Georgia Senate race

Perdue, the former CEO of Dollar General and first cousin of former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue (R), touts his business acumen and lack of political experience in his campaign announcement.

"If we want different results from Washington, we just have to send a different kind of person to Washington," he says in his announcement video. "I'm ready to use my private-sector experience to help get big government out of the way and unleash the power of our American economy."

Perdue joins Reps. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) in the race, which has the potential to be a messy primary. Democrats are already coalescing around philanthropist Michelle Nunn (D) as their choice in the Republican-leaning state.
