WATCH LIVE: Obama delivers State of the Union address

Obama will spend a significant portion of his address talking about jobs and the economy, according to White House aides.

The president will also use his State of the Union speech to push public opinion against looming automatic spending cuts and call for a "balanced" package of cuts and new tax revenues to replace the sequester.

The president will argue the economy would be damaged if the $85 billion sequester goes into effect on March 1, and he will seek to set Republicans up to take the blame.

Both Republicans and Democrats are eager to block sequestration, but GOP lawmakers say they will not accept any tax hikes in a replacement deal.
