Romney accepts GOP presidential nomination

“If I am elected president of these United States, I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future,” Romney said in his speech. “That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it. Let us begin that future together tonight.”

Romney was nominated to be the GOP presidential candidate Tuesday after the state delegates voted, but he didn’t formally accept the nomination until Thursday at the Republican National Convention.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is Romney’s running mate.

Romney walked through the convention hall shaking hands and hugging supporters on his way to the stage. He was greeted with cheers and outreached hands on the red carpet, as well as an embrace from Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

"Go get 'em" was heard among the roar of the crowd as he approached the front of the room to accept the nomination.
