Earthquake damages Capitol building

By Geneva Sands - 08/25/11 12:20 PM ET

The hearing room for the House Financial Services Committee sustained visible damage from Tuesday's earthquake, as cracks wrapped around the room.

Overall the Capitol building sustained relatively little damage.

The White House, Capitol complex, Pentagon and other government buildings were immediately evacuated after the earthquake. Capitol staffers were allowed back into their offices once the complex had been inspected by structural engineers.
