Democratic female lawmakers rally female-convention goers

Female members of Congress rallied the Democratic women attending the party’s convention in Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday evening.

All of the Democratic women of the House appeared on stage. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Reps. Rosa DeLauro (Conn.), Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.) and Gwen Moore (Wis.) were among the few who addressed the convention delegates.

Maloney drew the most cheers when asking, “Where are the women?” and answering, “The women are here.”

Maloney was quoting herself from the House hearings where Republican men had failed to invite any women to testify on women’s healthcare.

“Healthy moms mean healthy families,” Maloney said. “When my Republican colleagues held a hearing about birth control and refused to include a single woman on the first panel as a witness, I asked, 'Where are the women?' "

“Where are the women? The women are here. And we are on our way to reelect our president. The Democratic women of the House are committed to women's health and to moving America forward.”
