Cantor: Abuse of power led to Obama poll drop

Cantor was reacting to a new CNN/ORC poll in which 50 percent of those polled said Obama is not honest, while 49 percent believe he is. Obama's approval rating in the poll fell to 45 percent, down 8 points from mid-May.

The survey comes as the administration faces a host of controversies from the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs to their handling of the attack on the diplomatic annex in Benghazi, Libya, the IRS targeting scandal and Justice Department investigations of journalists.

When asked how Congress can distinguish itself, Cantor said House Republicans will continue to focus on government oversight.

"We're engaged in a very rigorous oversight of many of these agencies that have committed this violation of trust in the American people," he said.
