LAX shooting grounds flights

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employee was shot at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, according to media reports.

USA Today reported that one of the victims of the shooting was a TSA agent who had been checking passengers' identification at a security checkpoint at the time of the shooting.

Airport officials confirmed there was an “incident underway” in a tweet on Friday afternoon that said police were on the scene.

“Airport officials confirm police incident began at 9:30 a.m. at Terminal 3 at LAX,” the airport tweeted. “More info to come.”

Los Angeles Fire Department officials said it was assisting with a "multi-patient at LAX."

In a statement, the White House said President Obama was being kept abreast of the situation.

“The president has been briefed about the shooting at LAX. We will continue stay in touch with our federal and local partners," the White House said. "The LAPD is leading the response and investigation. We urge citizens to listen to the authorities and follow directions from the first responders on site. The president will continue to receive briefings throughout the day.”
