House Republicans are gearing up for the State of the Union on Tuesday, releasing a new video in the style of a movie trailer and launching an interactive website featuring the GOP response.
House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) office released a new Web video ahead of President Obama’s annual speech to a joint session of Congress.
"The following preview has been rated 'AA+,' taxpayers strongly cautioned," the faux trailer begins over a green screen. The "AA+" rating refers to the downgrade of the U.S. credit rating last year by the credit ratings agency Standard & Poor's.
The video continues with the faux movie theme, blasting the “cast” of Obama, Vice President Biden and Senate Democrats, singling out Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) in particular.
House Republicans also released a mock-up movie poster for Tuesday’s annual event last week. “More spending. Higher taxes. Fewer jobs,” the poster teases over an image of Obama speaking. “From the studio that blocked nearly 30 House-passed bipartisan jobs bills ... 1,000 Days Without a Budget — A State of the Union Address. 1.24.2012.”
House Republicans have also set up a website with interactive tools before and during Obama’s address. Users can submit questions for House Republicans, which Republicans will answer on Twitter following the speech with the hashtag #SOTUGOP.
