Actor Michael Douglas filmed a public service announcement for the FBI in which he warns about potential fraudulent investments.
The clip opens with a scene from the Oliver Stone movie "Wall Street," in which Douglas famously portrayed corrupt investment banker Gordon Gekko.
“The point is, ladies and gentlemen, greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right,” Douglas says as Gekko, in a clip from the film.
“Hello, I’m Michael Douglas,” the clip continues, switching to a shot of the actor speaking from a studio. “In the movie 'Wall Street' I play Gordon Gekko, a greedy corporate executive who cheated to profit while innocent investors lost their savings. The movie was fiction, but the problem is real.”
FBI spokesman Peter Donald told the
New York Post that they approached the actor six months ago and that he filmed the spot for free.
The video is part of the FBI’s effort to more closely police white-collar crimes.
“Our economy is increasingly dependent on the success and the integrity of the financial markets,” Douglas continued. “If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
