"Our hearts break with the sadness of this unspeakable tragedy," Romney said. "Ann and I join the president and first lady and all Americans in offering our deepest condolences to those whose lives were shattered in a few moments of evil."
Romney was appearing in Bow, N.H., at what previously had been scheduled as a campaign stop. He spoke briefly, using nothing from his standard stump speech but, instead, focusing on the shootings.
The presumptive Republican nominee said he stood "before you today not as a candidate, but as a father, a grandfather, a husband and an American."
