Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist on Monday defended his decision to switch to the Democratic Party.
Crist, the former Republican who became an independent during his run for the U.S. Senate in 2010, announced his move to the Democratic Party over Twitter on Friday.
In an interview with MSNBC on Monday, he said that being a Democrat is a better fit for him.
"I'm a live and let live kind of guy," Crist said. "The Democratic Party is where I am much more comfortable."
He added that "middle of the road, common sense Republicans" are becoming increasingly rare.
Crist is currently considering a challenge to Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) in 2014.
Crist has been welcomed by Democrats, with the new chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, Vermont Gov. Pete Shumlin, recently saying that Crist is "high on the list" of possible candidates to run for governor in Florida in 2014.
