“Where is he?” asked Christie to the children surrounding him, in a video posted by his office on YouTube.
“There he is!” he said as he picked up the phone receiver and used his left hand to squash the arachnid. He then wiped what was left of the doomed spidey on his pants.
While some of the schoolkids applauded, PETA is less-than-thrilled with the governor’s actions. The animal rights group’s president Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement to ITK, “He probably did it without thinking. Some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary to people, and that can prevent them from pondering their worth.”
After doing away with the spider, Christie told the young witnesses to its execution: “That’s also one of the fun parts of being governor. Any bugs on your desk, you’re allowed to kill them and not get in trouble.”
