The former Illinois congressman says excitedly in the 10-minute tribute, “Senator Dole, it’s Ray LaHood!” before he immediately starts serenading the former senator with a warbling yet confident rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
While LaHood was the only one who dared to bust out in song, tons of familiar faces make appearances in the birthday message. They include: Reps. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sens. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), former Sens. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), Katie Couric, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, ex-Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R), former Reps. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) and Jane Harman (D-Calif.), former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) and Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet.
The organization also encouraged the public to wish Dole a happy birthday Monday on Twitter by tweeting out a message featuring a photo with the new nonagenarian’s favorite dessert, a chocolate milkshake.
