Bush receives stent for blocked artery

Former President George W. Bush underwent surgery on Tuesday morning for an artery blockage.

The 43rd president had a heart stent implanted at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital after the blockage was found during an annual checkup. The obstruction was found on Monday at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas.

A spokesman said the former president is in "high spirits."

"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday," a Bush spokesman said in a statement.
