Late-night smash: Government shutdown looms

"Senate leaders Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell admitted they have no Plan B if the House doesn't avoid a government shutdown," NBC's "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon said Wednesday night. "Of course, this raised a lot of questions like, since when did they have a Plan A? Do you have a Plan A? Are you going to let us know?"

Republican leaders announced a plan Wednesday to use a short-term spending resolution to try to defund ObamaCare. That resolution is slated for a vote as early as Thursday and is likely to be rejected by the Senate, setting up further votes next week.

"The White House has now directed federal agencies to prepare for a government shutdown if Democrats and Republicans fail to find a budget compromise by the end of September, like October first," said "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno.

"You know, I say shut the government down," he continued. "Let these people go out in the real world and try to find a job, OK? See how they like it. They will never find a job."
