Mikulski: GOP can ‘huff and puff’ but they can’t ‘blow ObamaCare away’

Mikulski was referring to Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) 21-hour-long floor speech earlier this week. Cruz spoke out against ObamaCare in an effort to convince his colleagues not to strip language from a House spending measure that would defund the law.

Last week, the House passed H.J.Res. 59, which would fund the government through mid-December, but defunds ObamaCare. The Senate has taken up that measure, but Cruz complained that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed an amendment restoring funds for ObamaCare.

The government will shut down Oct. 1 if Congress doesn't approve some form of government funding measure.

Mikulski pointed out that President Obama has threatened to veto any spending measure that guts his signature healthcare law.

“We cannot move if we have the theatrical shutdown politics,” Mikulski said. “This isn’t just about show business; we have to keep the government open.”
