Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) accused presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tx.) of being "completely out to lunch" regarding his views on FEMA.
"I've known Ron Paul for many years. I like Ron Paul, but on these issues he's completely out to lunch and I would suggest to Ron to come to Vermont, talk to people who are really hurting, who need help. We are a nation, we're not fifty individual states," said Sanders to CNN Monday.
Paul has come out in opposition of FEMA over the past few days. He has said he believes the agency is a waste of money and a bureaucratic hindrance to disaster relief.
Hurricane Irene may have caused the worst flooding in Vermont since 1927 reported CNN. The volume of rainfall in such a short period of time turned streams into raging rivers said Sanders. Roads and bridges we destroyed leaving many towns isolated from the rest of the state.
Sanders praised FEMA for coordinating federal and state rescue and clean-up efforts in Vermont.
