Group of senators to supercommittee: 'We've got their backs'

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) on Thursday announced a bipartisan coalition of 36 senators to encourage the "supercommittee" members to reach the broadest possible agreement on debt and deficit reduction.

"I think it's pretty obvious that when you look at this group up here we're not only bipartisan, we stretch on both sides of the spectrum in our respective conferences. That's how serious we know the issue of this debt is," said Chambliss at a press conference Thursday.

Chambliss said the group of senators is in "total support" of the supercommittee and its authority.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), who partnered with Chambliss, said to the supercommittee, "If they step forward, we've got their backs."
