McCain: US must be 'willing partners' in Libyan transition

McCain traveled to the Libyan capital with fellow lawmakers Sens. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to meet with members of the governing National Transitional Council and tour Tripoli's Martyrs's Square.

McCain called for a return of frozen assets to the Libyan people, U.S. technical assistance in preparing for elections and encouraged trade and investment links between the U.S. and Libya.

"The United States and the community of nations must remain the willing partners of the Libyan people as they step into a new era," he said.
