Senators often refer to each other as “the junior senator from Nevada” or “the senior senator from Kentucky” on the floor, but Thursday night Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) slipped and called Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) something else.
“I just want to thank the distinguished senior citizen ... senior, senior, senior senator from Arizona,” Hutchison said. "I'm having a bad night."
McCain, 75, is one of the older members of the Senate, but not the oldest. That honor goes to 78-year-old Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.).
