Senate Armed Services chairman says risk in Iraq remains after December

Senate Armed Services Committe Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) said Friday, “There will be risks to Americans as well as to American troops in Iraq because it’s not yet a totally stable place.”

President Obama announced earlier Friday that all U.S. forces will be leaving Iraq by the end of the year.

Levin said embassy personnel will be at a continued risk after December, and added that leaving additional forces subject to Iraqi jurisdiction would create additional danger for those stationed in the country.
