Opponents of legislation which seeks to curb online piracy launched a new website Monday spotlighting Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) a leading critic of the bills.
In the video, Wyden criticizes the Senate's Protect IP Act, saying it “sacrifices cybersecurity while restricting free speech and innovation."
Wyden has threatened a filibuster and plans to read the names of people who have signed a petition opposing the measure as he works to block the bill.
The website is paid for by Demand Progress who produced the video and has been campaigning against the legislation.
The Protect IP Act and its House counterpart the Stop Online Piracy Act would empower government and copyright holders to demand that search engines block access to websites which are "dedicated to copyright infringement."
The bills are backed by the entertainment industry and business groups who say that strong measures are needed to combat online copyright infringement. Internet companies and consumer advocates however claim the bills could lead to censorship on the internet.
Cybersecurity has taken on a new urgency since reports of an alleged cyber attack on a utility plant in Illinois became public last week. Senate leadership also announced plans to take up a cybersecurity bill next year.
Wyden has been strongly opposed to the legislation since it was voted out of committee last Congress.
