Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) said Thursday that “lazy” congressmen are not examining an obvious source of government spending in cutting waste in the federal government.
Appearing on Bloomberg and discussing the extension of the payroll tax cut, he said, “If we want to do this … we ought to go after the waste, fraud and duplication, and what we have is a bunch of lazy members of congress who refuse to do that.”
Coburn was a member of the Gang of Six that failed reach an agreement on deficit reduction before the August debt-ceiling deal. He issued his own $9 trillion deficit-reduction plan in July.
President Obama has been pushing Congress to extend the payroll tax cut that is set to expire at the end of this year.
