Sen. Grassley struggles to silence ringing phone during floor speech

It appears that the senator recognized the offending ringtone as his because he immediately unbuttoned his jacket to remove the device from a case on his belt. Grassley then held the phone below the podium where he was speaking and attempted to silence the device, whispering to himself in frustration.

Senate cameras cut away from Grassley midway through his fumbling, but he quickly turned off the ringer.

Grassley’s phone rang midway through an explanation as to why he would be voting against the nomination of Jeffrey J. Helmick to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
