High school teacher Teddy Turner (R), the son of media mogul Ted Turner, is up with the first ad in the campaign to fill Sen. Tim Scott's (R-S.C.) open House seat.
"He went to there work as a cameraman, and left as a conservative," the ad's narrator says. "Filming major developments in the Soviet Union, Teddy Turner witnessed the devastation of communism — and it forever changed him. A graduate of the Citadel, husband and father of three, today Turner is an economics teacher in Charleston. Turner will fight for more freedom and less government so our families will have a secure tomorrow. Conservative Teddy Turner for Congress."
Turner is one of a crowded field of Republicans running for the seat. Most expect former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) to make it to the primary runoff election in late spring, and many of the other candidates are positioning themselves to be the other candidate in that race. The district leans strongly Republican, though two Democrats — including comedian Stephen Colbert's sister — have jumped into the race in recent days.
