Reid: 'The fate of our country rests with John Boehner'

Lawmakers need to reach an agreement by midnight on legislation to fund the government otherwise it will shutdown.

Over the weekend, the House passed a continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the government through Dec. 15. It would delay the individual coverage mandate and the insurance exchanges — which are set to launch on Tuesday — and eliminate a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices.

But Democrats have said they want a “clean” CR to prevent a shutdown. Earlier Monday, the Senate voted again to remove House language designed to delay ObamaCare.

Reid criticized Republicans for saying Democrats haven’t been willing to negotiate.

“Democrats are through negotiating with ourselves,” Reid said. “Shrill Republicans demanding more time to negotiated is ludicrous.”

House Republicans are expected to try again Monday to insert language on ObamaCare into the CR, but Reid said the GOP would be to blame if the government shuts down.

“Boehner is going to shutdown the government,” Reid said. “The House of Representatives could have voted yesterday — they could vote today to keep the government running.”
