Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick (D) came ready to talk about politics on Meet the Press Sunday, but there was one subject he didn't want to touch: the departure of Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
"Gov. Patrick as you well know the most important personal decision in your state this morning is not about the presidency, it's about this man, Terry Francona, who's now out as manager of the Boston Red Sox … how do you lose this guy even after the colossal collapse of the Red Sox?" asked Meet the Press host David Gregory Sunday.
"Don't you think I have my hands full just trying to run state government … I love this team. I love it's management. I love the players and the fans are unbeatable," responded Patrick.
"Wow, I mean we got more from him on the president than that," said Gregory.
The Red Sox released a statement Friday announcing they were not picking up the option on Francona's contract for a ninth year as manager.
Francona helped lead the Boston Red Sox to two World Series Championship wins, including its first in 86 years.
