Huckabee co-author accused of child molestation

A Christian author who co-wrote two books with Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has been accused of child molestation in two lawsuits, according to BuzzFeed.

John Perry, who helped Huckabee write Do the Right Thing — a book on his 2008 presidential campaign — and worked closely with the candidate on other projects such as the 2007 memoir Character is the Issue, is facing allegations that he molested two young girls.

Nashville police told Buzzfeed the victim was between 11 and 14 years old.

Perry was not prosecuted for the alleged crime, despite a 2002 police investigation finding the "allegations of sexual battery were sustained," because the statute of limitations expired.

Buzzfeed reports Perry's wife filed for divorce, citing "inappropriate marital conduct," and alleged he admitted to sexually abusing a minor when they were married.

Perry has neither denied nor admitted guilt.

The news comes after Huckabee, who was governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007, announced last month that he is running for the White House in 2016.
