I read the entire transcript of the president’s press conference. His whole statement on Iraq and Iran. All the tough talk. All the threats toward Iran. All the attempts to justify a new approach, a new strategy, new tactics.

There was not one paragraph, not a single sentence, not a single word about a political solution. Not once did President Bush mention negotiations, talks with the countries in the region, any diplomatic efforts to end this war.

And yet he took credit for the efforts to negotiate with Korea. Why not use that as a segue to seek a path toward peace and reconciliation in Iraq? Why not use this opportunity to mention a diplomatic effort, reach out to the countries most affected by this war? Another chance squandered.
