Rep. Barbara Comstock

Rep. Barbara Comstock says she doesn’t need an exercise routine — instead, she has three grandchildren.

When not strolling around with one of the kids, the Republican congresswoman keeps herself healthy with occasional Pilates and yoga. But her favorite type of exercise is a little less common: “Door knocking.”

Though born in Massachusetts, Comstock considers Virginia her home and loves talking about the many attractions in her district.

“I like the wineries; my husband likes the breweries,” she says with a grin.

The political powerhouse got her start in former Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf’s office before serving in the Justice Department and the Virginia House of Delegates.

“It’s always been sort of a family event,” Comstock says about her political career.

But did she expect to end up taking her former boss’s seat in Congress?

“It wasn’t my plan at all,” she laughs.
