The wife of the "kissing congressman" is standing by her man.
Rep. Vance McAllister's (R-La.) newest ad features his wife, Kelly, by his side, seeking to mute criticism of the freshman congressman, after he was caught on tape kissing a female staffer earlier this year.
"Life is filled with ups and downs," the congressman says. His wife chimes in, saying, "A man's character is based on how many times he gets back up and stands again."
"I'm lucky to have been blessed with a great family, and a wonderful Christian wife," McAllister continues.
"And I'm blessed to have a husband who owns up to his mistakes, never gives up, always fighting for the good people of Louisiana," says Kelly McAllister.
After his indiscretions, McAllister resisted calls to resign but also said he wouldn't run for reelection. He later changed his mind, but now finds himself in a tough all-party primary on Nov. 4. Businessman Zach Dasher has already earned support from The Club for Growth. He's also a relative of the Robertson clan from the popular "Duck Dynasty" series, whose patriarchs backed McAllister in his special election last year.
