Reid surprised Romney has ‘the gall’ to go after Trump’s tax returns

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday he’s surprised Mitt Romney is going after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about his tax returns.

“All I know, I can’t imagine Romney having the gall coming after anybody’s returns. Let’s look at his,” Reid told CNN on Thursday.

{mosads}Romney attacked Trump Wednesday for not yet releasing his tax returns. He said on Fox News, “We have good reason to believe that there’s a bombshell in Donald Trump’s taxes.”

Reid launched a similar attack on Romney during his 2012 campaign, insinuating then that Romney was not releasing his tax returns because he was paying a very low effective tax rate.

During his campaign, Romney released his tax returns for two years and a summary of returns dating back to 1990, but he drew criticism for not releasing his full, pre-2010 returns.

“He never gave us his tax returns. Who was the brainchild who got him to do that?” Reid said.

“Romney never gave us his tax returns. He did not — he gave us his summary — he didn’t give us our tax returns.”

Reid said in the past he didn’t regret the attacks he launched on Romney on the topic, adding he did what he felt he had to do.

Trump responded to Romney’s criticisms on Wednesday evening, saying his returns are “extremely complex” and he’s in no rush to release them.
