The influential anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List is celebrating Donald Trump’s apparent selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.
“Mike Pence is a pro-life trailblazer and Mr. Trump could not have made a better choice,” said SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement Thursday afternoon.
{mosads}Pence’s selection, she added, would be “an affirmation of the pro-life commitments [Trump has] made and will rally the pro-life grassroots.”
Dannenfelser’s statement came shortly after reports emerged from major outlets that the Trump campaign had told Republican officials that the presumptive GOP nominee had chosen Pence as his VP.
Trump officials, including campaign chairman Paul Manafort, insisted on Twitter that the VP decision had not been finalized yet.
Dannenfelser said that “Gov. Pence has proven to be a pro-life champion both during his time in Congress and as Governor of Indiana.”
She praised Pence for leading the effort to defund Planned Parenthood in Congress and for signing into law “a historic bill protecting unborn children from lethal discrimination in the womb.”
Dannenfelser is holding Trump to his pledges to defund Planned Parenthood, advance and sign into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and appoint anti-abortion rights justices to the Supreme Court.
