Obama's thank-you message most retweeted @POTUS post ever

President Obama’s tweet thanking Americans, posted following his farewell address on Tuesday night, is now the most retweeted post ever from the @POTUS account, Twitter announced Wednesday.

“Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I’m asking you to believe—not in my ability to create change, but in yours.”

The tweet had more than 472,000 tweets as of 11 a.m. Wednesday, surpassing Obama’s June 2015 tweet following the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage across the country. That post got more than 425,000 retweets.

“Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins,” Obama tweeted on June 26.

Obama gave his farewell address Tuesday night in Chicago.
