Huma Abedin, a former top aide to Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonMeghan McCain: 'SNL' parodies made me feel like 'laughing stock of the country' Hill: Trump reelection would spur 'one constitutional crisis after another' Trump defends indicted GOP congressman MORE, has filed for divorce from her estranged husband Anthony Weiner, according to the New York Post.
She is requesting that the court seal the case, which would effectively bar it from public view.
Weiner pleaded guilty on Friday to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor. Prosecutors have indicated that they will ask for 21 to 27 months in prison for the former New York congressman.
Weiner will also have to register as a sex offender.
Abedin separated from Weiner in August amid revelations that he had exchanged sexually explicit images with a woman on social media. Abedin and Weiner married in 2010 and have a young son together.
Weiner has long been plagued by scandal regarding his lewd online behavior. He resigned from Congress in 2011 after he sent an obscene photo of himself on social media and admitted to having exchanged sexually explicit photos and messages with women online.
Explicit online messages sent by Weiner surfaced again in 2013, while he was a candidate for New York City mayor, effectively ending the attempt to resurrect his political career.
Last year, while Abedin was working as the vice chairwoman of Clinton’s presidential campaign, more lewd messages from Weiner came to light, prompting Abedin to separate from her husband.
