House Majority Whip Steve Scalise's (R-La.) family celebrated Father's Day by tweeting a picture as the congressman recovers from Wednesday's shooting in a Washington, D.C., hospital.

"Steve's greatest joy is being a father to Madison and Harrison, and a husband to Jennifer," the tweet from his account reads.

"This Father's Day has special meaning for the Scalise family, and they send their best wishes to every family, especially the dads. Take the time to be close with the ones you love. Thank you for the continued prayers, support and outpouring of love," his family wrote in a tweet, with pictures of the congressman and his children attached.

The majority whip was shot in the hip while practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity on a field in Alexandria, Va., on Wednesday.

Scalise has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures since then, and his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.

Scalise is more responsive and speaking with his loved ones, according to MedStar Washington Medical Center.
