After canceling a trip to Iowa Thursday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said she’ll return to the state next month to reveal her plans for 2012.

Bachmann told reporters on a conference call that she’ll travel Waterloo, Iowa, in June to announce whether she’ll run for the Republican presidential nomination. Bachmann’s choice of location for the announcement — her hometown — hints she might run for president.

{mosads}The three-term congresswoman had been set to travel to Des Moines on Thursday for a fundraising dinner for the Polk County GOP. But she opted to remain in Washington to vote on an extension of the Patriot Act. She addressed the crowd via Skype.

The House approved the Senate version of the Patriot Act extension bill, a clean extension of three surveillance authorities, until June 1, 2015. Bachmann voted for the extension.

Bachmann is a staunch conservative and favorite of the Tea Party movement. Many observers believe she’d be competing for the same slice of the GOP base as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who announced Thursday she’s embarking on a national book tour.

Bachmann told reporters her plans had nothing to do with Palin’s.

“I don’t believe that any two candidates are interchangeable,” she said. “I think each one of us brings our own unique skills into this race.”

Bachmann told her supporters earlier this week that she and her family are “prayerfully considering what the next 18 months or so may bring. We’ve seen incredible support pouring in through Facebook, through our new website.

“And the Team Bachmann momentum is building and it’s very encouraging as we look to our next steps,” she said.
