Fiorina: Clinton caught 'red-handed' on Benghazi lie
The Republican presidential candidate told a crowd at the Iowa GOP’s Growth & Opportunity Party on Saturday that Republicans need a nominee who will point out that Clinton “lied about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya.”
“And we have her red-handed,” she added.
Fiorina pointed to an email Clinton sent to her daughter the night of the attack that indicates the former secretary of State knew the attack was not the result of a spontaneous protest in reaction to an anti-Muslim video.
“Indeed she did tell her daughter that very night that this was a purposeful, pre-planned terrorist attack,” Fiorina said. “She nevertheless got up the next morning and talked to the American people about a videotape and stood over the bodies of the fallen and talked about a videotape again.”
The GOP presidential hopeful said the party’s eventual nominee must force Clinton to “confront her lies” on Benghazi.
Fiorina contrasted herself with Clinton by saying her campaign is about more than just gender.
“I tell you the one thing I will never do: I will never ask for your votes or your support because I am a woman, although I am proud to be one,” she said.
“I will ask for your votes and your support and your prayers because I am the most qualified candidate to beat Hillary Clinton and to become president of the United States.”
The former Hewlett-Packard CEO said she is the only candidate in the field who can both “do the job” as president and “win the job” in an election.
Fiorina is currently sixth in the GOP presidential race with 5.6 percent support, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
Clinton leads the Democratic race with 48.8 percent, according the same RealClearPolitics polling average.
