"We started with an initial list of over 40 people we were looking at and we culled that down to 17. We began vetting those 17 based on their public records," Cruz said Friday during a Fox News town hall in Indianapolis, according to the Washington Examiner.

"We cut that down to a list of five, and I'll tell you the final choice I found was very, very easy."

Cruz praised Fiorina for her experience in the private sector, saying it gives her a unique perspective on how to create jobs.

The Texas senator announced Fiorina as his pick for vice president earlier this week, an unusual move this far out from the convention.
