EMILY's List, a political action committee that supports Democratic women who favor abortion rights, has added Denise Moreno Ducheny and Gloria Negrete McLeod to its list, the first step toward an eventual full endorsement.

Ducheny and McLeod are both California state senators running to represent California in the U.S. House.

McLeod, a former community college president from Chino, Calif., is challenging another Democrat — Rep. Joe Baca — in the primary.

“When her district was facing challenges, Denise took on leadership roles and made real change,” said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock. “She has done a fantastic job representing her community at the state level, and we are thrilled she decided to run on the national stage."

Ducheny is an attorney and former community college trustee running in the seat being vacated by Rep. Bob Filner (D-Calif.) as he makes a go to be San Diego's mayor.

Touting McLeod's long history as a state lawmaker, Schriock noted her commitment to ensuring access to healthcare and affordable education.

EMILY's List's highest-profile efforts so far this year have been in support of Elizabeth Warren, who is running for Senate in Massachusetts, and Suzanne Bonamici, the Democratic nominee in a special House race in Oregon.
