The Associated Press called the race, which was not as close as polls had predicted. Costello was up by double digits with 62 percent of precincts reporting.

Both parties had targeted the race as a possible pickup. Democrats were hoping to flip the slightly Republican-leaning district, while the GOP eyed Costello, 37, as a rising star.

Costello, the Chester County Commissioner, promoted domestic energy production and cutting taxes during his campaign.

Three-time congressional candidate Trivedi, a physician and Iraq War combat surgeon, said his top priority would have been raising the minimum wage.
