Murphy has raised more than $1.07 million this year, making him one of the top House fundraisers.

The freshman Democrat was a prolific fundraiser last cycle as well, raising more than $4.7 million for one of the nation's nastiest, most expensive races.

He went on to defeat Republican Allen West by less than 2,000 votes. West's profile as an outspoken, controversial Tea Party leader helped rally support — both in terms of votes at the polls and financially — for Murphy's challenge.

Florida's 18th congressional district is a swing district that broke for Republican Mitt Romney in 2012, and Murphy remains one of the nation's most vulnerable incumbents going into reelection.
