Romney has a rare positive favorability rating in Arizona, with 46 viewing him positively against 45 negatively. Conversely, Obama, whose job-approval rating is near break-even nationally, is 15 points underwater in Arizona, according to the poll.

The president has indicated that he will target Hispanic voters in the Southwest as a part of his campaign strategy, a group he already holds a massive lead with over Romney.

In April, Vice President Biden said his ticket had “a real shot of winning” Arizona while campaigning in the state.

Still, Arizona has only voted for the Democratic presidential candidate once since 1952, and Republicans remain confident that they can hold the state.
